Empire State Building in view – what an icon!

Think Frank Sinatra, think Audrey Hepburn – New York, New York is the city of legends. Heck, I was singing Moon River to myself in the echo chamber of Grand Central Terminal! Yes, NYC is an expensive city to visit but there are ways to get around the expenses for sure. If you’d be willing to drive 40 minutes to Newark and then take the 10 minute PATH train into downtown Manhattan, motel rates in New Brunswick start at just $40 and parking at just $12 for the whole day, quite a bargain if you’d ask me!

Times Square

To capture the full glory of the New York City skyline you have to head to Brooklyn and stand right under the Brooklyn Bridge. The best time to go is in the evening to see the sun set just behind the towering skyscrapers in Manhattan and the soaring pillars of Brooklyn Bridge. Be sure to go early during summer to catch a good photo spot, it’s very popular!

Charging Bull

If you’re thinking of driving into downtown Manhattan, forget it. Trust me, I tried and it’s not an easy task, stick to the fast and cheap (relative to parking fees) subway that spaghettis all over the city. I’d suggest you start down at the 9/11 memorial, visit Freedom Tower there and catch a ferry to the Statue of Liberty. Then, take a short walk up to Wall Street and see the famous charging bull. When you’re done, there’s even more! Subway up to the Empire State Building and Flatiron Building to see it in person. From the Empire State Building, Times Square is a short walk north, I challenge you to take a picture of Times Square without a single yellow cab in frame, it’s impossible! Central Park, Grand Central Terminal, and the Chrysler Building are all just a hop on the subway from Times Square and I’d call it a day.

Who said you couldn’t see the Art Deco gems of New York City in 24 hours?
