Pontiac is a beautiful little town that has dozens of wall murals all over the place. You can take a picture of their deceptively realistic murals to trick your friends, pose in front of them, or even drive your car right up to it! The whole town is in for classic American wall art to woo travellers on Route 66 to make a stop there.
Pontiac also happens to be where the Pontiac car brand was founded with a Pontiac car museum offering free entry. I didn’t know that Pontiac used to make sleds before it became a car company, and the museum has one of them on display, too.
Bob Waldmire’s van Pontiac Museum
The old Pontiac City Hall and Fire Station building houses four museums that are interconnected with a complex system of staircases and several entrances. All the museums are free, but a donation is suggested. There, you can pick up a Visitor in Pontiac, or “VIP”, badge that offers you a tourist discount in shops all around town. My favourite exhibit in the museum was Bob Waldmire’s van that inspired the cast of the movie Cars.
