Singen (Hohentwiel) has the name of a nearby extinct volcano appended to the town’s full title. This name appears on official documents, train system information, and road signs. Frankfurt (Main) can get confused with Frankfurt (Oder), but Singen shares its name with zero other places at the municipality level so it seems rather unnecessary to me.

Geographically, it is closer to Schaffhausen in Switzerland than it is to the border town of Konstanz in Germany. An hourly express train runs from Singen via Schaffhausen then directly to Zürich in just 53 minutes, so it’s no surprise that some commuters choose to live in Singen and work in Switzerland for lower rents and the cheaper cost of living.

The most important sight to see is probably the Museum Art & Cars located just outside the Stadtpark with classics covered in artistic patterns. It reminds me of the Prototyp Museum in Hamburg that houses some prominent BMW art cars.

The Maggi factory is located just opposite the main train station, but visits are not available. Other than that, an archaeological museum and an art museum is also located within the core urban area. There are about six blocks of low-cost shopping and dining with several ice cream stores thanks to its southern pre-alpine climate.

You could also visit the old Napoleonic fort on the top of the Hohentwiel, but why would you do that if you can just look at cool cars?

The photos are of a lower quality because I went “Singen in the rain”.
