A good school, not a great school. Edmonton‘s largest university consistently ranks in the top ten of Maclean’s university rankings year after year in multiple categories but never manages to break into the top three. It’s located in the capital of a province with decent economic activity, excellent engineering, and a population count that isn’t very close to zero.

The one story I was incredibly impressed with was the experimental Albertan satellite Ex-Alta 1. It was built by 50 students, most of them from the University of Alberta. It took the team four years to test the components of the small cube satellite before it was launched into space by NASA.
