Inside a Routemaster
Manufactured in the 1950’s and 60’s during the UK’s height of industrial achievement and just before the fall of Empire (of which I was a part of), the iconic red double-deckers served the streets of London until about 2005 when they were retired from service. I was excited to be able to travel on Routemasters on both the 9 and 15 heritage routes during my visit there 2014. This and the black cabs were a real dream come true!
The seats weren’t very comfortable, but the moquette patterns were instantly recognisable. For no more than a regular bus fare, you too, can hitch a ride on this 60 year-old beast!
