Located on the southwestern slope of Mount Royal in Montreal, the St. Joseph’s Oratory is Canada’s largest church. It also has one of the largest church domes in the world with a 39 meter diameter. Completed in 1967, the basilica looks much older than it actually is with its Art Deco style.
Although its patron saint is Joseph, the interpretive gallery features the life of Brother André and his instrumental role in the construction of the oratory. Wax figures of Brother André in scenes of his life are in the lower level of the building along with his heart preserved in a liquid.
The balcony area is accessible year-round with a commanding view of the city below. Its direction makes it a prime location to watch sunset. There’s an innovative donation machine that takes contactless payment by credit card.
