First class meals on Thalys

Just before I started university, mother thought it’d be a splendid idea to visit Paris. Me being me, I made the most out of this trip by suggesting a day trip to Brussels. Mother was very careful with money, but it didn’t mean that she wouldn’t take up a good deal when she found one!

“This way to the first class area, I got a good deal with a coupon.” ~ Mother

So we traveled first class on the Thalys TGV. I didn’t like the low ceiling of a duplex TGV, just as well that we got on one of the older single-deck trains. The seats were velvet red with generous elbow room and plenty of depth on the booth table. The at-seat meal came with a choice between chicken pasta or fish fillet risotto, both with a selection of cheeses, a dense chocolate tart, and red or white wine. Somebody had to be sober, so I had Perrier.

We did a little experiment and filled a cup to the brim. The ride was so stable that the cup of water didn’t spill unless the train ran over a junction. Though the trip was less than two hours, it was more than enough to enjoy first class amenities.
